ANNA HAZARE MOVEMENT GAINS MOMENTUM IN CITY

Mysore, Apr. 8 (KMC, RK& MTY)- The Anna Hazare Movement against corruption, which continues to gain mass support throughout the nation, has evinced support in Mysore too, with several organisations, associations and individuals expressing their solidarity with the Movement by gathering near Gandhiji's bust in front of the City Court this morning and demanding the immediate implementation of the Jan Lokpal Bill.

The Movement was initiated by 71-year-old social activist Kisan Bapat Baburao Hazare, popularly known as Anna Hazare, at the Jantar Mantar in Delhi on Apr. 5, demanding the implementation of the Jan Lokpal Bill.

Court boycott

Proceedings in city courts were boycotted by the advocates who, under the banner of the Mysore Bar Association, assembled in front of the Court premises and took out a march up to Ramaswamy Circle where they formed a human chain, symbolising their solidarity with Hazare. The advocates, led by Bar Association President C. Appaji Gowda, later marched via JLB Road to the DC's office, where they submitted a memorandum seeking implementation of the Bill.

Inspired by the country-wide mass movement, a group of about 100 city-based journalists representing various newspapers and TV channels, gathered near Gandhiji's bust and shouted slogans for the Bill's speedy implementation. Mysore District Journalists' Association General Secretary B.S. Prabhurajan led the protestors.

Similar demonstrations were conducted by a group of farmers led by Karnataka State Sugarcane Growers' Association President Kurubur Shantha-kumar, members of Karnataka Rakshana Vedike, Jai Karnataka and several pro-Kannada organisations.

At Manasagangotri

Students, professors, researchers and others numbering in hundreds assembled at Gandhi Bhavan in Manasagangotri this morning to join in the national movement. Under the banner of Sathyameva Jayathe, the gathering sang Gandhiji's favourite Bhajan Raghupathi Raghava Raja Ram and raised slogans in favour of the implementation of the Bill. The Bhajan singing will go on till 6 pm today. Dr. Muzaffer Asadi, Dr. Arvinda Malagathi, Prof. K.C. Basavaraj, Prof. Shashikala, Prof. K.N. Jayaramaiah and others were present at Gandhi Bhavan.
